Graz, 21 October 2022. Recently, the Austrian shoe producer legero united, the umbrella of the brands superfit, legero and Think!, received an award for the best measure in the field of environmental and climate protection from the Austrian Federal Environmental Agency for the development of its proprietary eco-database. Now the company has another reason to celebrate, as it was nominated by a panel of experts out of more than 100 applications for the prestigious Primus Award in the sustainability category, placing it among the top 3 nominees.
With the Primus nomination, the panel recognised the Austrian shoe manufacturer’s long-standing commitment to sustainability. With a multitude of measures along the entire value chain, legero united is consistently pressing on towards its goal of being CO2 neutral by 2030. The Think! brand collections have been manufactured exclusively according to sustainable standards for more than 30 years. All three brands of the owner-operated family business have been awarded the industry-leading Blue Angel environmental seal for models in their AW 22/23 collections. As early as 2013, the company launched its proprietary development platform for sustainable materials and products, VIOS, for its women’s shoe brand legero and its children’s shoe brand superfit, which is one of the leading children’s shoe suppliers in Europe. It addresses the issue of sustainability with a comprehensive and scientific approach. With the VIOS Restricted Substance List, a separate standard was then created: It imposes significantly more stringent requirements than the legal requirements or quality seals. The company is an active member of a number of industry initiatives and published a sustainability report for the first time in 2022: it provides detailed insight into the measures behind the company-wide sustainability initiative “luna”, or, in German, the legero united Nachhaltigkeitsagenda (legero united Sustainability Agenda), what has been achieved to date and the goals specified for the future. For anyone interested, it is available in the downloads section of the company’s website www.legero-united.com. An annual report is planned for the future.
“Since 1872 years, the year in which our company was founded, our driving force has been to design, develop and manufacture shoes that you don’t have to worry about., and it still is. Shoes of the highest quality in terms of timeless beauty, outstanding comfort and sustainability,” says Stefan Stolitzka, owner and CEO of legero united. “Driving the sustainability of our brands is a key strategic focus for us, and one that we pursue with consistency. We are very excited about receiving continued recognition of these efforts from the Primus panel.”
